EPIK Spring 2022 Application Process Changes (Updated)

Notice: The attached file was updated on November 22, 2021 to reflect the deletion of a policy change initially announced on July 28th, 2021 regarding withdrawal penalties. It was previously updated in September to reflect the deletion of a policy change regarding the requirement of CRCs for the initial application.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the EPIK Program.

The application process for the Spring 2022 EPIK term will have some slight changes from previous terms including a later opening date and the requirement for further documents to be uploaded with the online initial application. Please review the attached file for specifics on the changes to the application process for the upcoming term.

Applications for EPIK’s Spring 2022 term will open on August 23rd at 9AM, Korean Time. These positions will primarily cover positions that start in late February/early March with potentially a handful of late intake positions*.

*During the COVID-19 pandemic, late intake positions have primarily been very limited or unavailable, and we expect this to be the case as well for the Spring 2022 term. As such, the best chance of placement is to be available for the main intake.

Due to COVID-19, quarantine is still in place for foreign entries into Korea. While there are some exemptions for special visa types or vaccinated individuals, at this time, those do not apply to EPIK teachers. As such, all applicants should be aware that they will more than likely need to commit to a 2-week mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Korea and that they will be responsible for the full costs of the quarantine which is estimated to range from 1.4 to 2.1 million Korean won at this time. This is subject to change in the future as the situation develops. The EPIK Program will ultimately make a decision on whether quarantine is required or not for program participants and which quarantine venues or methods are approved. Application to the program at this time is only possible with agreement to these matters regarding quarantine. If quarantine is required, arrival for the Spring 2022 term’s main intake is expected to be in early February of next year with a more specific date determined later.

We also wish to clarify that the program is not based on a first come, first served policy. Applying early can be beneficial and help with the process but is not the sole factor taken into consideration for the program. Factors that are considered beneficial and that could help boost an application include: holding a degree in Education/Teaching, having previous formal teaching experience (including TaLK experience), possessing official government-issued teaching qualifications or licensing, and completing a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA/CELT or other accepted certification with an in-class component.
