QQ: Who is eligible for EPIK?
In accordance with current E-2 visa laws, EPIK teachers must be citizens of one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
* Under the CEPA agreement, Indian citizens are eligible for positions if they meet all other requirements and hold a valid teaching certificate in English education (this cannot be fulfilled by a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate).
EPIK’s minimum educational requirements state that an applicant's schooling from at least 7th grade and through university must have been conducted in English and at a school that is within one of the countries listed above. Those that have attended English-medium, accredited international schools abroad may also be eligible but will require further documentation.
Korean citizens can apply for EPIK if they hold permanent residency status or dual citizenship status in one of the above mentioned countries.
QQ: I do not hold a Bachelor degree. Can I apply?
If you are in your final semester, you are able to apply for the EPIK program if you are able to submit your apostilled diploma no later than 1.5 months prior to the start of your contract.
We are able to recommend applicants with a "letter of expected graduation" but must have the apostilled diploma to finalize your application process no later than 1.5 months before the contract start date. Some schools may only be able to provide you with your diploma weeks after your official graduation, so this is something you will want to research in advance. It is up to you to find out whether you will receive your diploma with enough time to have an apostilled copy made and sent to us by the deadline mentioned above.
For applicants without a bachelor degree and who do not plan to obtain one, unfortunately, this is a mandatory requirement for eligibility to the program.
QQ: I am temporarily living in a country outside of the designated seven English-speaking countries, but I fulfill all of the eligibility requirements. Can I apply for the EPIK program?
Yes, but collecting your documents may be more challenging. It is important to apply early so that your coordinator can help you with the document collection process.
QQ: Does EPIK offer contracts other than for one year?
No. Contracts are for one year in length.
However, if applicants have a good relationship with their school, it may be possible to extend their contract for additional years on a year-to-year basis.
QQ: What are the start dates?
Main Intake*
- Seoul/Gyeonggi: Mar. 1st (Spring) / Aug. 25th (Fall)
- National EPIK: Feb. 26th (Spring) / Aug. 26th (Fall)
Late Intake*
- Seoul: Not Available
- National EPIK: Mar. 26th & April 26th (Spring) / Sep. 26th & October 26th (Fall)
Please note that there is also a mandatory orientation period preceding the exact contract start dates.

QQ: What is the class size and how long are the lessons?
Classes usually have 30-40 students depending on the size of the school with some rural schools having much smaller class sizes.
Standard elementary curriculum classes are 40 minutes, middle school classes are 45 minutes, and high school classes are 50 minutes in length.
QQ: How can I apply?
To begin the process applicants need to just submit a completed application and 2 scanned letters of recommendation along with any other initial application required documents through our online application system.

QQ: Is there a difference between applying directly to EPIK or applying through a recruiter?
Each direct applicant is allocated a dedicated EPIK Coordinator at the interview stage that will work closely with the applicant to ensure that their application and documentation are prepared correctly and quickly for successful placement.
Recruitment agencies may provide some additional services outside the scope of the EPIK Program that may be beneficial to some applicants depending on their needs.
QQ: When should I apply and when is the application deadline?
As the application process is similar to rolling admission, we do not have a set application deadline for any given term. Depending on the number of positions and the number of applications received, the closing date can vary from term to term. That being said, the application process can be quite lengthy, and those who apply sooner have a definite advantage over those who apply late.
For the Spring term, applications will open on August 1st of the preceding year. For those interested in the Fall term, applications will open on the February 1st of that year with the application available on our website a week or so before.
