Dear current and prospective EPIK teachers,

The Korean Immigration Service and the Ministry of Justice are introducing a new biometric information requirement for foreigners entering the Republic of Korea from January 1st, 2012.

The biometric information will be collected at all ports of entry to the country during the immigration clearance process:

  1. For those entering the country for the first time, at the airport under the guidance of an immigration officer, both index fingers will be scanned and a facial photograph will be taken.

  1. For those who are already residing in Korea and are intending to stay or extend their sojourn on their existing visa and for those who have entered Korea for the first time, you will be required to supply a fingerprint scan of all ten fingers when registering for your alien registration card at your local immigration office.

These are compulsory requirements for entering and extending your stay in the Republic of Korea under the new immigration law.

For more information please refer to the documents attached and to the short video on the Korean Immigration Service website explaining the process.
